Used my Canon for the first time in ages today photographing my girlfriends fashion project.

This is the last music promo I AC’ed on. Cereal is carcinogenic, wuh?
Shot on the latter moded Alexa Plus for high frame rate.

Not really posted on here in awhile. This isn’t due to me being super busy or anything like that, more so I haven’t really had anything worthy happen of a mention (that and my keyboard now has ADHD and is very pissy/temperamental). So to suffice the 3/4 people who actually read this, here’s a quick bullet pointed summary from the past few weeks:
- Went on a 16/35mm familiarisation course at the NFTS where I got to play with some Panflexes (Millenium/Platinum), Arricam ST, 435, SR3, Moviecam and another camera I’m forgetting. Very worthwhile experience.
- Had my first experience of nightshoots. Particularly worthy of a mention was that one night was entirely exteriors, was freezing cold and a no-pay student gig. Also, the director was a bit of a diva and clearly fashioned himself on Godard but subsequently came across as a bit of a bellend. However was working with my usual camera dep. so always a laugh if nothing else :). Also, having two Alexas going round parliament on a low-loader at 4am was pretty cool!
- I’m stuck for things to say on bullet point three now. Done a few little shorts here and there, Oh! and a promo on which was my first 35mm experience, very nice chilled out day to learn the ins/outs and here’s the end result of said project:

Had a pretty chilled out afternoon learning to load the Aaton Penelope. Love how simple it is. Starting to see why people bang on about shooting film besides for the aesthetic benefits - fucking zen!
Going to help out on a promo shoot tomorrow but other than that not a lot else on at the moment now that I’ve finished university. Could probably do with getting myself a hobby. Or some drugs.
So i just finished university and managed to blag a decent mark for my thesis. This picture is relevant.

Went to see Lars Von Trier’s Melancholia last night and it’s kinda like if Ingmar Bergman made an apocalypse film. Without all the conventions of the blockbuster end-of-the-world movie that you’re used to, you get a chance to invest in the characters rather than action set-pieces and as a result it’s fucking unsettling!
Other than that, beautifully shot, same slow-mo phantom shots as in Antichrist used in a montage at the start, followed by the rest of the film being handheld Alexa blah blah blah.
This is an HD transfer of the 1969 Apollo 11 launch from a 16mm original that was running at 500 fps; this 8 minute clip shows roughly 30 seconds of real time.

The old silver fox in interview about In Time coming out later this year. Enjoy!
Really wonderful documentary series on the story of film. From silent film to talkies, then onto the different movements like impressionism and expressionism and all the way up to contemporary blockbusters and ‘cerebral mainstream’ like Nolan, Del Toro and Von Trier.
